Summer is coming, and everyone could use a little more cooling on hot summer days. Gone are the days of box fans or awkward top heavy circular oscillating fans. Today, when people need a little extra air flow, they go for a tower fan with a remote.
As you might expect, there is a dizzying array of choices available. In this article, we’ll compare the Lasko 2511 with a new option on the market, the Dreo. 36” tower fan. Both of these fans offer a quality experience, but which should you buy?
Air Flow
As you would expect, fan speed, or more specifically, the wind speed of the air leaving the fan, is probably the most important consideration when selecting one. You want something that will move air! Both the Lasko and Dreo tower fans offer multiple speeds to customize your cooling comfort.
The Lasko has three speeds, the lowest bing really gentle, with the highest being significant enough to be felt 8 feet away. The Dreo, on the other hand, has four speeds available. 1, 2, and 3 are pretty comparable to the feel of the Lasko. However, speed 4 is noticeably more powerful than what the Lasko offers.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Lasko oscillates over a 45° spread, while the Dreo has a 90° oscillation. So overall, the Dreo is going to move air over a larger area, but ultimately it seems like this difference is going to come down to a matter of preference.
Noise
The noise level of both fans is pretty comparable, with the Dreo being noticeably quieter at lower speeds. From three feet away, at speed 1, the Dreo registers at a whisper quiet 34 dB, while the Lasko is 44 dB. You have to get the Dreo up to speed 3 to hit 44 dB, and at that speed, the Lasko only goes up to 47 dB. Basically ,the Lasko doesn’t add much more noise at the different speeds.
The Dreo does have that extra speed 4 that cranks up the noise a bit with the wind speed. At speed 4, the Dreo runs at 48 dB.
The Dreo has an extra feature that Lasko is lacking. You can mute the button sounds. This is handy if you want to make adjustments without interrupting the quiet.
Design
The design of these two fans is similar, but also so markedly different that it’s hard not to remark on it.
Lasko, as with many of their products, has opted for a functional, utilitarian design that gets the job done. It doesn’t look particularly bad, but it’s not great either. The light indicators let you know what your settings are, but they’re just dots of lights next to numbers. In the case of the sleep timer, they even require you to do math to know what the timer is set on. And the numbers you’re looking at are printed on the fan, not backlit. So you’re going to have to turn on the light to check your settings if you’re in a dark room.
The Dreo, on the other hand, looks like a work of modern art, with its all black design, and the big LED screen. You won’t have any problem knowing what speed the fan is set to or what the sleep timer is set on. No moving closer to inspect tiny numbers printed on the casing.
The design differences carry through to the remotes. The Lasko remote is functional, if unsightly, while the Dreo is beautiful and sleek (and the Dreo remote also comes with a battery; the Lasko doesn’t).
Ease of Use
To be honest, any fan is pretty dead simple to use, but some are easier than others.
In the case of these two, the Lasko comes with fairly simple instructions: push the power button to turn on, adjust the speed, etc.
The Dreo has similarly simple instructions, but also has some additional options (mute, auto mode, natural mode, etc.).
Also, the Dreo instructions are delivered in a much more appealing and professionally polished package, which I can’t ignore. Providing an instruction booklet like this sends a message to your customers that you take their experience seriously.
One feature of the Dreo that isn’t included in the instructions is the easy to remove and clean back panel. If you’ve ever run a fan for any amount of time, you know that you’ll be dealing with dust buildup. With the one screw panel removal, the Dreo makes that much simpler. The back panel on the Lasko looks like you’ll have to remove six screws, but I’m not sure if it’s really designed to remove and clean.
Conclusion
Choosing from a wide selection of very similar products can be daunting at the best of times. For something like a tower fan, there’s really just not that much to the hardware to differentiate one from the other, but Dreo does manage to bring a more compelling product to the market. With quieter operation, a large and bright LED display, more features, a more appealing design, and a better user experience, the Dreo 36” tower fan really does offer a better product than the Lasko 2511. And you’ll pay $10 more for that difference, as the Lasko only costs 59.99, while the Dreo retails for 69.99. Whether or not the upgrades are worth the extra expense is really up to you, but for a product that will last for years to come, my money is on Dreo.

(They sure don’t make fans like that anymore!) Since I tend to run hot, I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching various types and brands of fans. I purchased the Nomad One based on the incredibly high ratings by virtually every independent website as well as the dozens of excellent YouTube videos which showed how powerful and versatile it is. A lot of the videos compared the Dreo to numerous other brands (including the ridiculously expensive Dyson tower fan) and the Dreo was the overall winner every single time.
This fan is fantastic! Since I just received it, I can’t speak to its longevity (unfortunately, nothing seems to last for 20 years anymore), but the performance is better than I would have believed.
Tons of Functions: I won’t describe all the functions of the fan or the remote control because you can read about them or see them in action on YouTube videos, but I did want give a shout-out to the “natural mode,” which continuously varies the fan speed to mimic variable outside breezes. When I finally figured out what that mode does (I had never heard of that type of function on a fan), it sounded like one of the dumbest ideas ever. Wrong! It’s actually ridiculously enjoyable and relaxing; it really does a great impression of a real outdoor breeze!
Powerful Airflow: I sleep with a fan on almost year-round because I’m always hot. This fan (which is the smallest of Dreo’s tower fans) is *plenty* powerful. The air speed is slightly less strong than my heavy-duty 14” fan, but the airflow is much more concentrated; instead of disbursing the air in a wide pattern, it produces a concentrated column of air which is much more directional and efficient — more of the air actually reaches your body instead of being uselessly disbursed around the room. Plus, because of the fan’s height, the air column reaches the top of my bed so it’s really effective during sleep; my prior bedroom fan sat on the floor, and regardless of how I tilted the fan head, the air either bounced back off the box spring or dissipated into the upper part of the room rather than providing direct cooling to me.
Superb Customer Support (thank you, Lindsay!): The fan has a standard 12-month warranty, but came with a card saying I could extend the warranty to 30 months for free by creating an online Dreo account and registering my product. The process is a little clunky — you’ll need your Amazon order # and the exact model number of your fan (which is printed on the shipping box, so take a picture of the box before throwing it out!) — but it was manageable. After I registered my fan, I immediately received an auto-generated email from Dreo confirming my registration; unfortunately, the email listed the warranty period as 12 months instead of the promised 30 months. Since I am nothing if not persistent, I immediately submitted a support ticket about the error (through the Support page on the Dreo website) late on a Friday afternoon. To my surprise, about 7 hours later, I received a response from Lindsay at Dreo Customer Care. Lindsay was a real person who had obviously read my message carefully and understood the problem. She apologized for the error and said she would correct the warranty period in Dreo’s records. About 30 seconds later, I received another auto-email from Dreo, this time correctly listing the 30-month extended warranty period. Yes, I was annoyed that the initial registration didn’t automatically extend the warranty as promised, but I was blown away with the quick response (on a Friday night, no less), the fact that a real person (not an annoying AI chat-bot) read my email and responded, and the fact that Lindsay said she would correct the error — and did so in less than one minute. That, my fellow Amazonians, is what I call excellent customer service!
Value: I was lucky enough to catch this $69.99 fan on a Limited Deal with a 10%-off coupon, but I wouldn’t hesitate to pay full price. If the build quality is a good as the performance, this fan should last a long time and the excellent performance is well worth the price.
Bottom Line: Since I wanted to see if this tower fan design actually worked, I ordered this least-expensive Dreo, without all the bells and whistles of the top-of-the-line WiFi version. Now that I have experienced first-hand that the fan really is as good as all the reviews claimed, I’ll be adding the 42” fancy WiFi version (which is Alexa/Google controllable) to my Amazon wish list and hoping it goes on sale when Amazon Prime Day arrives in July. And if it’s not on sale, I’ll probably buy it anyway — but shh!, don’t tell Amazon. 🤫
5 enthusiastic stars!

After adding a lovely heater of a gaming pc to my room over the winter, it has turned into a game of steal our old basic fan back and forth with my son, I finally just said to heck with it and finally upgrade (which I planned to do just had to find the right one and budget the finances for a splurge cause I didnt want to cop out on a cheepo)
I put this together in like 2 flipping seconds! It was so slick! Then it was super easy and lightweight to haul up our stairs, which was like a vacation after the work I just did re-arranging my room to promote better airflow (with like no coffee mind you…I was desperate when I woke up)
Then I plugged it in turned it on and was just blasted with the most refreshing cool air I about cried. It did start it on the highest setting but even the level 1 setting was 10x better then what I had before. And bonus! It was taller then I expected!
I am pretty sure I ordered the shorter option with a lot of apprehension since it was the only sacrifice I would consider making for a bit of a penny saver. Well I am okay that I pinched that penny because I would have really lost my mind with an even bigger one cause at that point thats just luxury life there (so maybe a future splurge haha when my son inevitably tries to steal this one me cause I just know he is going to try)

Banjuy5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Yet Whisper-Quiet – Great First Impressions!Reviewed in Canada on June 24, 2025Color: BlackVerified PurchaseI just got this Dreo Tower Fan yesterday and used it overnight—and I’m already impressed. It’s surprisingly powerful but incredibly quiet, which makes it perfect for the bedroom.
The airflow is strong and easily reaches across the room, yet even on higher settings, it barely makes a sound. I had it running all night and slept great. One detail I really appreciate is that the LED display automatically turns off, so it doesn’t disturb sleep—great for light sleepers like me.
The oscillation is smooth, the remote is super convenient, and the overall design is sleek and modern. I haven’t explored every mode yet, but the multiple speeds, sleep settings, and timer give you a lot of flexibility.
So far, it’s been an excellent purchase—great balance of performance, quiet operation, and thoughtful features.
