While I am not able to max out the advertised top speed of 14,800MB/s sequential read, I do get around 13,000MB/s read and write, which is still great! Windows 11 boots so quickly, and compiling software in Visual Studio on my new build takes under a minute where it used to take 4-5 minutes on my last build. This drive stays cool thanks to the Thermalright HR10 2280 PRO Black SSD Cooler I put on it, topping out at 45C under heavy load and 32C-ish under normal load. I got a great deal on the 4TB at the time and it was a great price for an excellent PCIe 5.0 drive. It’s a super fast, great drive so far.

Ease of installation: this device slides into a slot and depending on your device, is held in place with a screw, clip, or lever. In my case, I turned a clip to release the old one, slid in the new one, then turned the clip back.
As far as data migration, the Samsung Magician software made this process very simple. I selected the old drive, clicked migrate, and in 10 minutes my computer installation was transferred. I then swapped the positions of the old and new drives so that my computer would start on the new drive.
Performance: I noticed a difference on my computer from the moment I started with the new drive. My computer started noticeably faster. I tried loading programs which were known to be slow to start (such as Gimp on Windows 11), and they were also much faster. Operations such as game patching with Steam, program installation, zipping files, and virus scans were all significantly improved.
To quantify that statement, the old drive was a Samsung 860 EVO. Using the Crystal DiskMark 8.06 testing software, here are the improvements:

Some of these numbers are over 4x faster! (Higher is better).
Heat: heat can be an issue with performance disks, and mine reached a high of 49C under normal use. Testing note: my computer has its own heat sink. Why is this important? If these disks reach a very high temperature (around 80C), they slow down in order to stay cool. This issue is known as “thermal throttling”. It was not an issue in my testing.
Value: There are a number of new drives in this class (PCIe5, 2nd wave) in 2025, and this was one of the first to come out. It still tests very well against the competition in a variety of use cases. It was the cheapest in this class at the time of purchase on Prime Day. Spending $10-$30 more would not give me significantly better performance, so the value was the best option at the time.
Warranty: The warranty from Samsung is 5 years. This is better than some drives with 3 year warranties.
Packaging: The drive arrived in attractive packaging with an installation guide in 35(!!) languages. The drive was in a plastic tray in a box and seemed like it would be padded against moderate damage.
Conclusion:
I was very happy with the performance and value of this purchase. I feel content in knowing I have one of best options available. I recommend this if you simply want the best, or have tasks which rely on fast drive speeds. An example would be a content creator. Even games could benefit – not due to faster load times, but for installations and game patch updates.
