  • Hector5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality of product, fast printing and scanning, efficient use of inkReviewed in the United States on June 12, 2025Model name: New ModelVerified PurchaseExtremely pleased with this printer. Surpasses my expectations for quality, capability and function. It does take time to set up, but their user guide makes it easy to follow procedures. It took me 30 minutes for a full setup, about 10 minutes longer than expected. I use it wireless only, mostly 15 feet away from my Macbook Pro. I print directly from applications, and sometimes by using the free Brother Print & Scan app. The printer upports double sided printing, and gang scanning. Furthermore, it is highly efficient with ink. It has FAX function, but I don’t use it. I fully expect that the original ink tanks will last me a year, since I don’t print photos, but only small graphics in PDF documents, food recipes, or web pages.11 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
  • Alison5.0 out of 5 stars Easy set up, fast printingReviewed in the United States on June 24, 2025Model name: Renewed ModelVerified PurchaseI am very impressed with this all-in-one printer. It was sooo easy to set up, especially since I had been battling with an HP Photosmart 7520 for years. I almost cried tears of happiness when the set up went through properly the first try. I went to the Brother website via the included QR code, typed in the model number, then was able to download the software package with all the drivers. I have a MacBook Pro running 15.5, and installation was a breeze.

I was immediately able to print both from a website and Adobe Reader with this printer as the default. I also enabled “share this printer on the network” under System Settings > Printers & Scanners. I printed a test page from my ipad and it worked great.

I wanted to test the scan functionality since a lot of reviews mentioned that as a negative. I used the Print Center on my MacBook and opened the scanner from there. It took about 1 minute to scan a JPEG at 600 dpi, which is about as fast as my old HP Photosmart. No issues with the scanner from my perspective, though maybe it takes longer when using the Brother iPrint&Scan app. I also tested the copy function from the flatbed and automatic document feeder. Both methods worked well.

The quality of the printing on “normal” setting isn’t super crisp, but the speed is fantastic. If you want really nice photo printing this is probably not the printer for you, but for general home purposes it is a great choice… especially for the price. Highly recommend, 5 stars!8 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
  • Woody1.0 out of 5 stars Update: 8 months of ownership, and it’s already a useless piece of junk.Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2024Model name: New ModelVerified PurchaseUpdate: I’ve only had this printer for 8 months and it is a useless piece of junk. I’ve spent hours on the phone with Brother support, wasted gallons of ink “cleaning” it, and the print quality only gets worse and worse. I’m done with this thing and never buying another Brother product. This is ridiculous. My next step is to compel Brother to honor their warranty.

After 12 years of hard service and expensive ink, I retired my HP printer and tried this Brother. Here are my first impressions:

    The Misses:
    1. I hate the 1980s grey plastic design. It looks like crap on my desk, particularly since all the rest of my computing equipment is black, but I was buying for functionality, not style, I guess.
    2. I have postage stamps that are bigger than the LED display on this thing. It’s not easy to see and you have to scroll down to see some of the messages the machine is providing.
    3. The set up is kind of clunky and involved compared to other printers. Some set up is done on the machine, other parts are done by going to the Brother website where you have to figure out where to go to download the drivers. I was looking for something on the website home page that said “set up your printer here”, but instead you have to hunt around.
    4. During the set up process, it asks to download several ancillary services. These are not well explained, and I may have inadvertently downloaded annoying bloatware. We’ll find out.
    5. If you are considering printing photos with this machine, just stop and move on to something else. My HP was far better. The photos are crisp, but the Brother interprets certain colors in bizarre ways. For example, white tents are rendered in light blue. Looks very strange compared to the actual photo.
    6. The power cord on this is ridiculously short compared to my HP, and I pretty much had to change my entire desk set up to stretch the cord far enough to reach my power strip.
    7. It wouldn’t kill Brother to give you a printer cord if you want a wired connection. Fortunately, I was able to reuse my HP cord THAT CAME WITH THE MACHINE.

    The Hits:

    1. Printing a standard page of text with an illustration or two is lightning fast. I’ve never seen an inkjet as fast as this.
    2. Standard printed text is very sharp.
    3. It’s more compact than my old HP All in One, mostly because the paper tray doesn’t stick out an extra 5 inches on the side.
    4. It is much quieter than the HP, which would go through a lot of noisy gyrations just get itself prepared to print.

I’m not sure I did the right thing in buying this printer. I wanted to be thrilled, but so far I am not.213 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
  • K. Fong4.0 out of 5 stars ADF is a step up for this price rangeReviewed in the United States on January 23, 2023Model name: New ModelVerified PurchaseNote: This review is mainly addressing users who need reliable ADF scanning.
FIRST IMPRESSION AFTER 2 DAYS OF USE
    Background:
I originally owned an older Canon Pixma MX870 and was overall pleased with its different functions, but especially appreciated its ADF since I do a lot of document scanning, yet could not justify a dedicated document scanner. It had its share of paper jams and mishaps, but nothing too bad for that price range. I had to retire the MX870 because it was no longer being supported and the feeder was getting old and had trouble gripping paper…but I was able to get many years of use out of it.
The first printer that I tried was the HP 9018e. This printer was the most “svelt”, with slick design and really easy setup. ADF performance was mediocre and experienced unusually high paper mishaps (jams, grabbing more than 1 sheet, and slower than the MX870). A printer specialist recommended that I try Canon mainly because of the ink refill setup.
The second printer was the Canon TR8620a was the supposed successor to the older Pixma in its class. I am under the impression that the Canon had the best print quality for making photos, but photo quality was not my top criteria as document scanning. The scanning speed was much slower than the older MX870 and I did experience numerous issues when scanning in color such as paper jams, grabbing more than one sheet at a time, paper misaligning as it feeds, grabbing a second sheet before the earlier sheet finishes its scan, and reporting a paper jam when there was no paper in the feeder. These problems seemed to diminish when scanning in black and white.
The first impression of Brother MFC-J4335DW:
Overall, this printer has the best ADF of the three tried. When I loaded some documents for scanning, I immediately felt like the ADF grabbed the paper with more confidence…almost as if the feeder mechanism was stronger. The color scanning speed seemed similar to the older Pixma, and even faster when scanning in black and white. No misalignment or paper jams in 2 days of testing so far.
Also, I read a review that some users thought Brother’s software and user interface is confusing, but I did not experience any of that with this model. There is no touch-screen like the HP or Canon, but this was not a big deal for me and I felt the interface was intuitive and easy for me to use. The printed documentation did not mention the password to allow for things like firmware update, but I was able to google it and find the solution. (The password is on the back of the printer…and it is recommended that you change the password if it is connected to your main network to block a potential hack point.)
Ink economy is yet to be determined, but I do appreciate that the ink tanks do not drain everytime the printer is turned on (like some other printers as they clean their nozzles)…this gives me a level of confidence to turn off the printer if it is not getting a lot of use.

    1/31/2023 update:
About a week in after regular use of the ADF. I am concluding that this is one of the best ADFs out of all the printers in the sub-$200 all-in-one class. Almost no paper jams, misfeeds, or misalignments. The speed is the best I have seen, especially at 300dpi black and white scanning. One minor disappointment may be in how the scanned paper stacks up on top of the paper that is loading in: for the most part, if you are not exceeding the page limit in the load, it is fine assuming you remember to flip the paper catcher latch up. But for legal-sized paper, the paper catcher will not catch and you might deal with scanned paper spilling over the edge. When trying to grab scanned paper, there is the potential for the user to mistakingly grab the paper that has yet to be scanned.
It is hard to describe in writing, but the mechanical sound of the Brother ADF seems more “professional” than the HPs and Canons in this class…but this is something you would have to hear for yourself.319 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
  • Mr hydrogen5.0 out of 5 stars Why I bought this machineReviewed in the United States on June 4, 2025Model name: New ModelVerified PurchaseNormally I would say that a couple hours after unpacking the box is far too soon to write a review, but not this time. My new Brother MFC-J4335DW all-in-one fax machine was easy to set up, and worked flawlessly from the very beginning. It connected to wireless and my computer both without any problem or hesitation, faxed correctly even before connecting to anything but a phone line, and the print and fax quality are both excellent. It even faxed handwritten notes clearly, which is not something we can expect from most faxes. It replaced my old Brother MFC model that I bought on a discontinued/clearance table for $45 in 2009, which had outperformed its expected lifespan by at least 60,000 perfectly printed pages!!! It was still working beautifully in my office when the print head suddenly clogged and could no longer be cleaned, after 16 years of such heavy use. My old fax will receive an honorable burial, and after such an impressive performance I was not going to replace it with anything but a newer model from the same line. After setting it up and testing it, I am very glad that I did. (Yes, I have used other machines, and have a large HP laser fax at home that is nice, but it does not print in color or duplex, and can’t come close to the speed and versatility of this Brother MFC, which takes up less than a quarter of the space.) This machine is small and lightweight like the old one, with a tray that holds plenty of paper. The ink cartridges also seem to be very generous, so I do not anticipate constantly changing them. The features seem to be very well designed and user-friendly; the display screen is a nice touch, programmed pretty well so that I did not need any instructions to complete my setup. The control panel tilt option is another nice feature. The buttons are soft, non-slip, but perhaps a little small and close together for some people, so if you have very large hands it may help to use something like a blunt stylus or pen to push the buttons – which the soft surface allows you to do. Overall, this seems to be a very versatile and well designed machine, definitely worth the price, and if it proves to be as durable and reliable as the old one, it will be one of my best electronics buys ever.22 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
  • K. Wade5.0 out of 5 stars Quick, works wellReviewed in the United States on June 22, 2025Model name: New ModelVerified PurchaseWhy did you pick this product vs others?:
I picked it because it didn’t require a subscription for ink. It was easy to set up, prints good quality very quickly. The old printer I replaced (HP) would diddle around for what seemed like a minute or so before getting around to printing a document. This printer starts up and prints quickly. It takes up less space than the old printer, too. I’m very pleased with it.8 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
  • LCskater5.0 out of 5 stars Great printerReviewed in the United States on April 29, 2023Model name: New ModelVerified PurchaseI waited for a month or two before I reviewed this.

    Scans:
I use scans for work and need a scanner that can easily handle multiple pages. This scans a lot of pages- which is great. I used the feeder (and I also downloaded the software from the website). I use the program to scan. It is fabulous. I scanned a 25 page document easily and saved as a pdf to my computer. This is a huge plus because many scanners don’t work well with multiple pages. The output was clear and it scanned it quickly. I do have to own up to my first scan being blank as I had the pages turned the wrong way for the feeder (it scanned the backs). Maybe I was in a rush, or I read it wrong-but it took me a second try to figure that out… so if you are using the document feeder make sure you scan the documents with the pages faced in the right direction.

I have an older brother at work. You can scan it directly from the printer to the laptop because it is connected via a printer cable. I didn’t set that up here, so I had to use the program to do it wirelessly which was very simple (after I did it a first time- see above). It was so easy that I decided to forgo the expense of the printer cable and just use the laptop to originate the scans wirelessly.

    Copy:
This take copies from the glass and from the document feeder. It holds a lot of pages and it copies them quickly and clearly. I was very happy with the ADF because I copy larger documents and this poses problems for many personal printers. The glass was also very easy to copy from and it is clearly marked for orientation. My former computer was a pain because it was not very clear and I had to remember to place it against the right vs. the left.

    Print:
Love this printer, it is fast and clear. The colors are deep and the printer easily and automatically prints (wirelessly) out my papers. I usually print out documents about 20 pages so this handled that well. I didn’t have to wait a long time and my ink is still at full…..

Overall I am very happy with this printer. My other printer would always give me issues when I needed to print in terms of connectivity and it would take several attempts and a lot of aggravation to print a something. This printer is a blessing in that area. It automatically connects to my computer, even after I haven’t used it for a week, and prints it out quietly, quickly and clearly. It is smaller than my previous printer and it is quiet.

I recommend you download the software but it is a big file(s) so it takes up memory (as a programmer I watch that load of the programs). I use the program for wireless scanning, but if you are not a big scanner than you could probably avoid it.

I recommend this printer. I think it has a lot of functionality for the price-most of which I do not use– but more importantly it works as it is supposed to – when it is supposed to. That is a big change from my former Cannon- which did what it wanted, when it wanted and took forever.328 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
  • Aaron M. Smith5.0 out of 5 stars Blows away Canon printers on speed, quality of print, setup apps and software is top notch.Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2024Model name: Renewed ModelVerified PurchaseThe speed of this printer is unreal. It prints on both sides of one page printing in less time than most other printers take to print for one side one page only. Also print time is quick when you hit the print button, it prints right away.

I noticed my Canon would take a minute to print, to even start printing and got slower and slower over time.

The real difference of this Brother printer from other printers is night and day. Its like going from a Yugo car to a Lamborghini race car.

The quality of the software bundled with this printer is excellent, it even resizes email pages for you and properly makes page fonts bigger zoomed in, the software resizes everything to fit in the printable area. With Canon this was not available. Also Canon ink tank system failed on color, only black would print. No matter how much cleaning. Canon printer failed in one year time. Brand new Canon never worked right.

We’ll see how long this printer lasts, but it already sounds much stronger and faster in scanning, printing and setup time to connect to WIFI. Doesnt have the issues during operation. It works smoothly, and Not slow at all.

Warning your WIFI router may need to be rebooted in order to recognize this printer on your wireless network setup on app, for your WIFI. Any computer, phone and tablet can print out stuff if you have the Brother app.

I could never get the Canon WIFI network printer to work. And I have been a computer programmer for decades. Brother was a little tuff to setup on WIFI only because my router needed resetting to recognize the new Brother printer. But once you set this up it works flawlessly. Unlike other printers.92 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
  • D. Martin4.0 out of 5 stars Ink features are hard to find. Knock-off Ink not a good ideaReviewed in the United States on June 26, 2025Model name: New ModelVerified PurchaseThere’s a lot I love about this printer, like how long the ink that comes with the printer lasts. I didn’t have to order new ink for 17 months! But- here are some things to be aware of:

I was having problems with the ink looking faint or light and a new ink purchase didn’t fix the problem. I finally got on the phone with Brother and was able to get the printer functional again. It turns out, when I go to the 💧 symbol on the control panel for “ink”, it takes you to a list of things to check. But get this: it takes you to the MIDDLE of the list, and I needed to scroll ⬆️ for the “clean heads” feature or “check print quality” feature! Who would have thought I was taken to the middle of a list??? But this did start right after I bought off-brand ink (on Amazon), so I think the knock-off gummed up the heads. Brother ink is expensive, but the ink that came with the printer lasted 17 months, so the tanks do last a good long time. I’m sticking with brand name from now on. Also, I downloaded my warranty and they *could* invalidate the warranty for using off-brand supplies.10 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport

Elder4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad printer, just frustrating setupReviewed in the United States on May 14, 2025Model name: New ModelVerified PurchaseThe main reason I’m giving it 4 stars is for the wifi setup. First I got this to replace an HP printer that was bought 2 months ago that broke down due to a software glitch. So decided to get this one. The unique ink to tank system was intriguing and it says it will save you on ink, which would be nice. But here’s the problem in setup and it gets wacky. So once you go through every step with ink etc, the little menu screen it says go to the brother website on you mobile or PC. Problem is when go and says to setup wifi, the screen is still saying go to the website, after watching videos and the app and setup software saying the same thing and actually initially ordering a USB cable, resetting my router from Xfinity and the printer by unplugging, I just set there trying to wonder if have to return it, the screen goes to sleep and what you know the main screen is on and was able to setup wifi. Here’s the problems, you not told that it’s so many seconds to minutes before that boot screen with the message of going to the main screen, and while that message is on your not going to be able setup wifi. Also the mobile app setup shows you a wifi button well the two buttons it shows aren’t the ones you need to look for, you’ll either hit one the print buttons or the power button, the button you need to press is the down arrow key for seconds (hope that helps anyone frustrated). Print speed is ok, used to other printers being a little faster. Other than the printer speed and the frustrating wifi setup, so far overall it’s not a bad printer. Also bought it, because Brother has factory location in my city. Hoping maybe printer future software updates will fix the screen load time to main menu.11 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport
