As far as features and execution go, this is an excellent device! The 3 different power levels really make a difference (sealing small chip bags works best on level 1 for me). The problem I had with my full size sealer was melting these smaller chip bags instead of sealing them. Also on the excellent side, is that it is battery powered : no need to go hunting for batteries, just plug in a ubiquitous usb. The hinge is sturdy, it’s easy to pick up and use and because it is so small and handy, it can be used most anywhere. That beats the full size sealer that I have to pull out of it’s storage cubby to use. It only takes a second or two to make a seal. It has a wide mesh covering the heating wire and the sealing length is 4 inches…that last measurement is where my ambivalence lies. 4 Inches will not seal a standard US mylar snack bag – that would require 5.5inches ideally. That’s not to say it can’t be done, it just requires multiple passes. Since it is so quick, multiple passes is not onerous, BUT lining up the seal tracks IS problematic. I ended up making one longer seal and then trying to have the second seal cross the first. And then I ended up trying multiple times – trying for multiple rows which is how the factory does it. Maybe 2 long passes, each starting from the opposite end with a third pass crossing in the middle? I tried pulling the bag through, but that didn’t work for me.
In any event, I was able to get good seals eventually. Since I can’t test if air is leaking in making my homemade beet chips soggy, I tested the effectiveness of the device the other way: I blew air into bags, tried sealing them, then tested if I was able to squeeze air out. They do in fact, make nice little sealed pillows that don’t leak air when squeezed.
