Let’s start with the port layout, because it’s one of the reasons I chose this particular configuration.
Front Ports: Two USB-A ports + SD and microSD card slots
Back Ports: Three USB-C ports and three USB-A ports
Ugreen also makes a version with a DisplayPort and headphone jack, but I passed on that one since the Mac Mini already has a headphone jack, and I don’t use DisplayPort—I run everything via HDMI or USB-C. The version I chose makes way more sense for a content creator, photographer, or anyone who regularly transfers files from a camera, drone, or GoPro. The front-facing SD card slot and microSD slot save me from having to dig around for an external adapter every time I need to offload footage.
But the real killer feature is the NVMe SSD enclosure built into the dock. No, it’s not going to match the speed of the internal Apple SSD—but for storing files, archiving projects, or keeping your main drive free from clutter, it’s more than fast enough. I installed a 1TB NVMe SSD, and now I have basically doubled my Mac Mini’s storage at a fraction of what Apple would charge to upgrade it. Plus, it stays permanently connected and behaves just like an internal secondary drive. Seamless.
Build quality is excellent too. The dock is color-matched to the M4 Mac Mini and designed with the exact footprint in mind—it sits right underneath the computer like it was meant to be there from the start. I do have regrets because some lower end or used thunderbolt 3/4 hubs are at this same price point with some of the same ports at USB4 specs. I’m kinda torn but I do appreciate what this ugreen hub offers.

But let’s be honest, when it comes to the physical design it’s quite lacking. Too few ports, the ridiculous power switch, and then there is the price gauging if you want to upgrade the storage (don’t, you should only ever upgrade the RAM if you absolutely need it).
Seriously, an 4Tb storage upgrade from Apple would add $1,800 CAD to the price … but with this you can buy a 4Tb NVMe drive for around $400 (and have the option to upgrade to 8Tb at a later date!)
This fixes pretty much everything at a very reasonable price – less expensive than all the alternatives I could find and no compromises that I’ve found.
Extra USB ports? You get USB-C and USB-A, more than you’ll likely ever need.
SD/TF Card readers? Easy to access on the front of the machine.
NVMe/SSD enclosure? Go up to 8Tb
It connects via a short, perfectly positioned, inbuilt USB-C / thunderbolt cable so it’s very neat and it fits the look for the Mac Mini perfectly.
I’ve found UGREEN to be a reliable brand so I have no hesitation in recommending this.
